York House Centre is a well-used Youth, Community and Arts Centre just a short walk from Stony Stratford town centre. We are a registered charity No 1122220) which is run by a volunteer Board of Trustees with some part-time administration and other staff, including youth leaders. A fine body of Volunteers helps the centre prosper, and we have a Membership Scheme for local people to demonstrate their support.
The organisation sustains itself and our Grade II listed building by hire of various multi-purpose rooms for group and private events - classes, workshops, baby and toddler groups, youth clubs, self-help and therapy organisations, meetings and 'away days' for charities and companies - accommodating all age ranges and activities.
In addition, we host (and often organise) a number of regular high-profile events and community arts projects, including the Stony Stratford Lantern Project and Parade, The Big Draw, The Stony Arts Caper, The Cock & Bull Beer Festival, YorkieFest (for Diabetes UK and British Heart Foundation), S.S.Shanty! (for RNLI), Stony Stratford Harvest Show, Coffee Mornings (including those for Stony Stratford in Bloom), as well as other fundraising events for York House and other charities. We have a Community Gardens Project on our rear grounds (developed in conjunction with Mind-BLMK) which provides allotment-style plots for community groups. York House Centre receives no revenue funding from external sources.
We have two Youth Clubs which we run in partnership with Stony Stratford Town Council
Junior Youth Club - Years 4 - 7 on Mondays in termtime
Senior Youth Club - Years 8 - 11 on Wednesdays in termtime
We have two young people's drama groups on Thursdays in termtime:
"Act Out" - Ages 6 - 11 years
"Act Up" - Ages 11 - 16 years
Affordable drama classes run by Terrie Howey (Red Phoenix Storyteller) supported by funding from Milton Keynes Community Foundation.
Other Regular users include MK War Games Society, MK Role Play Group, a church group, MK Humanists, arts groups and artists, Mind-BLMK, MacIntyre, a variety of baby and toddler groups, exercise and therapy groups (pilates, tai chi, yoga), University of the 3rd Age, Branch-out MK CIC (which provides horticultural therapy sessions as well as managing the Community Gardens), Red Phoenix Storytelling for drama and other spoken word activities, and … lots more!
The Main Hall & Servery has a capacity of 100 and we also have an additional ground floor meeting/activity room (the Beechey Room) which holds c40 people. The 2 ground floor rooms can be hired together as a package to give some extra space for parties and events. The Beechey Room has built-in audiovisual equipment so is perfect for meetings and charity or corporate 'away days'. Additional rooms on the upper floors are suitable for meetings and small-group activities plus “The Space” is a sound-proofed ground-floor room suitable for music rehearsals. Hire of all rooms includes access to our ground floor kitchen.
